The DC District Court has invited LWVDC to come and register new voters at the 2026 Naturalization Ceremonies. The ceremonies are planned to take place on the second Tuesday of each month in the District Court Courthouse. Our continuing success at these events depends on you! We need volunteers, every month, to carry out our mission. The ceremonies will continue to be held at the US District Court Courthouse, at 333 Constitution Ave NW. We will have the opportunity to interact with 100 to 125 new citizens every month. If you speak a foreign language—Spanish, French, Amharic, Korean, Chinese, or others—even better to help explain what we do, and how to register, to non-native speakers. You needn’t volunteer every month, but a big pool will enable us to cover the monthly ceremonies. With your support we can help our newest citizens become responsible voters.

Amid today’s challenges and uncertainty, here is a chance to create a warm and welcoming space for those who have worked tirelessly to become U.S. citizens. On May 12, LWVDC will sponsor the naturalization reception at the District Courthouse, and we need six volunteers to help make it a success. Volunteers will: greet new citizens and guide them to the reception area; oversee the event; and assist with clean-up. The time commitment is 8:30 am – 12:00 noon. Please note this is separate from our incredible team registering new voters. Join us in affirming that the U.S. opens its doors and heart to new citizens from around the world. To volunteer, please click the REGISTER button. For more information or questions, contact Ann Castiglione Cataldo at naturalizations@lwvdc.org.

LWVDC will be tabling at the Trans Pride DC community fair for the duration of the Trans Pride DC Conference. Volunteers are needed for tabling, though they do not have to be available for the entire community fair. Volunteers will be registering voters, discussing ranked choice voting, DC statehood, and answering questions gender-expansive voters may have.

From 10-11 AM, we will also be giving a presentation, Vote Out Loud, at the conference with the Lawyers‘ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. This session will give gender-expansive voters an overview of the changing policy landscape in 2026, including voter access issues, documentary proof of citizenship proposals, ID concerns, and ballot access. Attendance at the Trans Pride DC Conference is free and open to the public.
